Abstract
The undersigned countries of the Antarctic Treaty have accelerated the studies of the Antarctic seals in order to provide the basic information for regulation of the exploitation of these natural resources, To do so, it is suggested to know the number of individuals and the distribution of the different species; this procedure has been previously undertaken by several authors censusing with helicopters. In order to make Antarctic seal censuses more expedient, the main aspects of distance identification such as habitat, silhouette, colour, ambulation and other characteristics of Crabeater, Weddell, Ross, Leopard and Elephant seals are given.
