Educado en Lima y Londres, sus conocimientos le permitieron comprender las potencialidades de Chile como estado austral, dominando la sección sur del Océano Pacífico y alcanzando los últimos rincones del continente americano. Por medio del presente artículo, se busca analizar el pensamiento del libertador referido mediante el uso de fuentes primarias, secundarias y terciarias, que nos permitan entender los alcances de sus ideas en torno a la elaboración de una pre–geopolítica donde el rol de Chile fuese relevante en el dominio del espacio austral.During the Independence, Bernardo O'Higgins has developed an interesting thought relating to the potentials of Chilean territory. The referred captain general was educated in Lima and London and his knowledge enabled him to understand the potential of Chile as a Southern State that rules the southern section of Pacific Ocean and that reaches the last corners of the American continent.
