Item Pesquisa de la fauna parasitaria gastrointestinal en el pingüino Adelia (Pygoscelis adeliae) de una zona Antártica especialmente protegida (ZAEP N°150)(Universidad de Chile, 2006) Raffo Carvajal, Eduardo; Fredes, Fernando; Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias y Pecuarias; Escuela de Ciencias VeterinariasIn order to determine the parasitic fauna of the Adelie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae) from a specially protected zone from Antarctica, 167 fecal samples and 3 complete digestive tracts obtained from these penguins were analyzed using different parasitological methodologies. The fecal samples were analyzed using flotation, sedimentation, direct observation and Ziehl Neelsen methodologies. The most remarkable results obtained were: the determination of the presence of Cryptosporidium spp. oocists (which is the first report of this parasite in the continent), the determination of the presence of Tetrabothrius spp. eggs, and the observation of Sporozoa oocists and Nematoda eggs both of undetermined species. In the digestive tract analysis the most remarkable results obtained were the obtainment of a large number of nematodes identified as Streptocara spp. in different evolutionary stages, and the recovery of a whole 81 cm. Tetrabothrius spp. specimen (with the exception of the scolex).
